Parua House is a classical colonial house, built in 1883, comfortably restored, and occupying an elevated site with panoramic views of Parua Bay and the Whangarei Harbour.
The property which is adjacent to the water covers 29 hectares of farmland including two protected reserves which are rich in native trees (including kauri) and birds.
Guests are welcome to explore the farm and bush, milk the jersey cow, explore the olive grove and gardens or just relax on the veranda overlooking the harbour.
Parua Homestay and Olive grove is just over a 2 hour drive from Auckland and an hour from the Bay of Islands. Parua House is the perfect base to explore the North, with easy travelling to Russell, Waitangi, the Kauri Forest, the Matekohe Kauri Museum, the Huntervasser toilets, Tutukaka with the Poor Knights diving, glow worm caves and Northland's premier beaches.
There is so much to do and see in Whangarei itself. Take time to explore the Town Basin Marina, a popular haven for local and international cruising yachts, the world renowned Clapham Clock Museum, Whangarei Falls, Kiwi House and Bird Recovery Centre, treetop bush walks, Maori tours, the Quarry Gardens, the Zion Wildlife Garden (home of T V’s The Lion Man) gardens parks, outstanding craft and art studios and so much more.
We are conscious of our planet. In the house and on the farm. Environmentally friendlyand sustainable practices are followed. Guests are encouraged to continue with this eco-friendly policy.
A safe swimming beach adjoins the farm, with a short walk to the fishing jetty; two marinas and an excellent golf course are 2 minutes away.
Our wide interests include photography, patchwork quilting, horticulture and conversation. (A Burmese cat and an outside corgi compliment the hens and cattle.) The house is attractively appointed with antique furniture and a rare collection of spinning wheels.
Awake to home-baked bread and freshly squeezed orange juice. Dine in elegant surroundings with generous helpings of home produce, with our own eggs, home grown vegetables, olives and sub-tropical fruit (home made ice-cream a specialty!) Pre-meal drinks and wine are provided to add to the bonhomie of an evening meal shared around a large French oak refectory table.
As featured on TV’s “Ansett NZ, Time of Your Life” and “Corban’s Taste NZ”.
